Agapit Vallmitjana Barbany was the author of the marble full-body portrait of Queen Isabel II with his son Alfons XII made in 1860, which presides the entrance of the Palau de Pedralbes and of which this work in terracotta is probably a previous sketch. Likewise, he is the author of the nude study of the Queen in clay, preserved in the Catalan Art Museum.
He frequently collaborated with his brother Venanci who might have worked with him on this occasion.|
