Inscriptions: “A mi padre / A. Vallmitjana Abarca / 1908”, at the lower left side. Agapit Vallmitjana Abarca was the son of the sculptor Venanci Vallmitjana Barbany and nephew of the also sculptor Agapit Vallmitjana Barbany who were popularly known as the Vallmitjana brothers. This bust was a tribute to his father, who was by that time eighty years old. There is a further copy in terracotta in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (the National Art Museum of Catalonia) (MNAC/MAM 10680). Vallmitjana Abarca executed another portrait of his father, life-size and seated.
