It was made to preside the boardroom. This sculpture was executed by Marès in 1975 after a commission from the president of Barcelona City Council, Sr Joan Anton Samaranch i Torelló. It stands at present at the Salo de Sant Jordi (Saint George Room) in the Palau de la Generalitat (the Palace of the Catalan Government). There are several casts of this work. One is this present item, probably cast in 1980 and given to the institution by Marès himself to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Academy’s territorial enlargement all over Catalonia in October of that same year.
