Inscribed: On frame, on modern adhesive tape, in ink: “Núm. 30” (which does not correspond to any known catalogue). On back of frame, on label, in ink: “(...)/ Un fraile/ Mercedario’. Provenance: Museum of the former Board of Commerce, coming from the Convent de la Mercè in Barcelona. Came to the Academy's Museum: a. 1821. Note: Ignasi Valls, an engraver from Barcelona, drew and etched this painting in 1764, when it was still in the convent of the Mercedarian Order in Barcelona (MNAC, Gabinet de Dibuixos i Gravats, R. 3196 and 3197). The Catàleg 1913 refers to this work as a painting of a Mercedarian Friar and not as a Saint Peter Nolasco. It is in a poor state of preservation.
