Inscribed: On frame, on old card, in ink: “50”. On back of frame, on label of the Academy, in ink: “N.a. 50/ N.m. 187/ Crucifijo/ Copia de Alonso Cano/ Por Lacoma”.
Provenance: In all probability this is a work made as scholarship-holder in Madrid (where the artist settled from 1803 until his death), although it appears to be undocumented. Museum of the Junta de Comerç.
Restaurations: restored by J.M. Xarrié in 1980
Note: The original is in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid.
Note: According to Continuación 1803, [p. 14], Pau Montanya sent over to the Junta de Comerç from Madrid a copy of the Christ by Alonso Cano, However, no record appears of a work of this characteristics sent by Lacoma. Therefore, the attribution of this work to this artist could be an error dating from the Museum's early catalogues and this work may really be by the young Montanya. |
