Note: The portrayed (Salamanca, 1753 - ?1813) was military governor of the Principality of Catalonia between October 18th 1797 and September 29th 1808 (?).
This present work appears in the catalogues as by Joan Juvany, a painter from which no documentary evidence has been traced. Therefore, it is more reasonable to attribute it to the well-known painter Francesc Jubany i Carreres (Barcelona, 1787 – 1852) and to credit the name of Joan to a mistake of the early catalogues. The work is in very poor condition.|
