Signed: "A. Caba/ 1890” (lower left). Inscribed: On back, the canvas' trademark of the Planella firm in Barcelona, and on stretcher, labels of the exhibition held by the Cercle de Sant Lluc and of the Caba-Miralles exhibition. Provenance: Bequeathed by the sitter's son, the painter Enric Monserdà i Vidal. Came to the Academy's Museum: 1927. Note: The portrayed died in 1886, after being widow during many years, during which he sacrificed for the prosperity of their children, two of which will acquire notoriety. Lolita, writer, and Enric, painter. This commissioned Caba, his teacher at the Escola de la Llotja, this posthumous portrait as a tribute to his mother.
